Possible A-340 Windshear On Takeoff
A measure of command leadership I found, are the officers working to avoid a mistake because they're afraid of the blowback from leadership, of getting in trouble, basically out of fear? Or are they working hard not to make a mistake because they don't want to let the skipper down. That is, they're working for a man they admire and they don't want their mistake putting a black mark on his record and the commands.
There is a reason why we have 2 ears and 1 mouth. That cuts both ways. I with the problem don't ask someone for a fix and those who don't have the problem don't try fix the other's problem. Fancy medical talk aside, often we just need a listening/ nonjudgmental ear to get something off our chest.
I was in the Coast Guard on active duty. My first unit was a nightmare. I had 2 NCOs appointed over me that treated people terribly, including myself. I think the problem is a lack of oversight and screening people for promotion. “Anonymous” command climate surveys need to be taken seriously and not be a laughingstock. The two previously mentioned NCOs did end up ending their own careers. One was retired after disrespecting an Admiral. The other was retired w/ letter of reprimand for his own improper conduct w/ subordinates. This forever soured my view of the quality of CG leadership. I met many great people and leaders in the CG, too. I was always afraid my next unit could be worse. I did my 4, and got out.
Can the F-35C and their will suddenly by more money for more useful aircraft.
The only reason the Air Force bought the A-10s back in the 70s coz the Army threatened to build their own fixed wing CAS aircraft after vietnam, and the Air Force doesn't want the army to encroahed on their territory which is fixed wing air support. Hence as mover said, it is considered a red headed step child coz it was forced down into the air force's throats😂
The a 10 has been obsolete since the 80s it’s different from the b 51 because nothing can carry that amount of payload still. but for close air the a 10 is outclassed by an Apache in every way.
Its me.
Alhamdulillah
Oh, if Ukraine could get these.............
Just going from the title, not having watched the whole video, I would think Israel would want them. As for phasing out the A-10, as per usual, situation FUBAR. Brass has no idea what they are doing. Reminds me of the whole, "we have missles now, we don't need guns anymore" thought process. Too much time flying a desk I think.
Casmo is right though, we get beat up when a conflict starts until the bureaucrats get replaced with actual leaders. Then things get done.
“Even when you get someone good they’re muted” that’s exactly right Mover.
“Even when you get someone good they’re muted” that’s exactly right Mover.
I just spoke with my friend who is a chief and he told me he just went TDY to another base and the wing commander at that base didn’t want any direct feedback from enlisted leaders, any info from the enlisted leaders had to come from a colonel. 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ Its not surprising to me because leadership is not something that can be taught easily, it’s mostly intrinsic and some people have it and some don’t.
I would love to serve but they won’t take anyone with auto immune issues
No different than corp America. Armies of incompetent middle management and nothing ever gets done about it.
Bring back and upgrade the F-106!
What do they expect though. You give the Guard units old jets, they are going to break a lot. It’s no different than buying a used car. The Blues and the Angels are the only squadrons that should be getting old jets.
When you accomplish something that others see as substantial well the part of you that has to evolve that got you there is still active. And with some the mission is what inspires you. When that is gone..shiny objects have no luster.
Great video guys. 👍
Don’t worry. We are sending money to places like Pakistan for transgender education. So it all works out. Right ??????
Old news there better Today.
After I retired from the USAF, I definitely thought how the USAF picked senior leaders needed a lot of improvement until I started working for state government. Compared to that, the USAF was inspired genius...
I went and saw the documentary at the theater last night and it was spectacular.
I'm gonna put my money on that. It's some mysterious buyer that's gonna hand it over to Ukraine.
Wrong lol. Happens everyday all over the world. Non passenger planes. It's rocket science but not difficult to understand. 5 million in chemical aerosol increases GDP by several billion dollars. This is why the country is going to s*
In my enlisted experience toxic leaders in the Air Force are usually self-serving careerists who view their subordinates as tools to use to further their own careers. In addition for career fields like Aircraft MX and Security Forces you'll find the Army version of toxic leadership where some leaders are toxic and sadistic simply because they enjoy your suffering or believe that you're supposed to be miserable. Even some of the Air Force recruiting drive seems to miss the memes and normalize some of this abuse in their ads targeting people for aircraft MX where they try to normalize being overworked and neglected. Furthermore, the current promotion system encourages toxic leadership in those two career fields because officers and NCO's are promoted largely based on their metrics in addition to being "selected" as a golden child. Stats is what matters, not taking care of your troops. Big Blue has a lot to go through if they actually want to address toxic leadership.
Great point Casmo!
I've learned a lot recently along this line and in general find my intuition is my ultimate best guide ,and that options outside the box are coming from people outside my circle sometimes a one time encounter
Excellent advice ..gather input and consider the bias inherent in others'perspective.
For starters, change the FY budget process to a 3-yr rolling process where units have a mechanism to return unused dollars or to request extra - either way without penalty or reward. Next, quit operating on continuing resolution. Provide a fly-only career path. Provide for Guard/Reserve to receive their prorated retirement the day they retire, instead of age 60. Quit pork bills and allow line item veto. Quit spending so much money everywhere else and take care of bizness in the USA.
I thought what separates us from the animals was ,well you know. 👍🍆
Local clothing store bought a Mig21 (Polish?) at the fall of the eastern block as a gate guardian, they also had a Jet Provost on a pole at their front door, they sold the Mig 21 a few years ago (2016) during a revamp of the store, they kept the Provost on the pole though. They started out selling ex-military surplus clothing and now have gone a bit more upmarket, they had a collection of WW2 searchlights and triple A behind a berm in their overflow carpark across the road from the store. 51°15'12.16"N 5°23'13.35"E 2005 image on google earth gives about the best image of it.
Gripen C also have the data link etc. The Gripen E has electronic countermeasures against Russian radars. Gripen E carry more internal fuel, which Ukraine probably do not need.
Great discussion. GONKY you pretty much nailed it with the squadron bar or ready room example. If everyone pretty much disappears there’s your answer. MOVER good stuff as well…agreed.
Fighter shortage!!! So much stuff that could be brought back into service from AMARC.. Plenty F-16s in storage that could be pressed back into service..
Toxic leadership is self-evident. I saw it at my UPT base in Texas. Our T-38A squadron almost overnight after a change of command went downhill. Before the change when the students were released for the day, instructors would hang around the squadron, drop in to other flights and talk. After the new CC and new Ops Officer came in…if you didn’t need to be there, you got out of there. The new SQuadron/Cc came from a Pentagon assignment, the Ops Officer from AFIT. The time frame was late 1980’s. I saw way too many people leaving active duty for the major airlines. Good people. Made me wonder that “if all the good ones are leaving does that mean all the ticket-punchers are left ?”
Billy, the Canadian testpilot who did a lot of F-35 development, said on the Figther Pilot Podcast, that they were already working on automatic refueling. They used the code and experiences from the F-35B hover mode, and futher developed it to work behind the tanker. They made it work seanlessly in the sim, but real world testing revealed that the "AI" couldent compensate for turbulence. Maybe it can if it can use turbulance data from the MQ-25? Would require pretty fast data transfer though. But hey, the farming industry is already doing this on a lower scale. Your grain cart tractor can connect to your combine, and fully automaticly unload the combine on the go. Combine slows down or speed up, tractor follow. Combine turns, tractor follows.
Seems to be a problem more specific to the AFNG. I have not seen anything but full Companys of rotary wing and getting brand new frames off the line in the last 10 years in the NG. Maybes it’s the practicality and lower cost of rotary. Certainly more deployments for these units but the ADSO for flying also keep increasing.
Well, at least I know what I will be doing all summer....F4E...Wombat is SO cool, I wish he was my big brother!!!
Ike saw this shit coming over 60 years ago
Maintaining 1, 4, 12, 24 aircraft at a locale requires more or less the same base infrastructure, tools, stores, maintainers, ... . The tools, stores and maintainers for an F-35A being a lot more expensive, and scarce than those of an F-16, unlike the pilots. Fewer bases, airframes, and pilots is inevitable.
And it’s going to get worse fast if the US enters combat and starts losing airframes.
We had an Apache crash in MS earlier this year…both crew members were killed.
No money? Where is the 100’s of BILLIONS coming from that is going to corrupt politicians and the US/Ukraine war with Russia? 🇺🇦
The vast majority of the aid is actually being spent in the United States. The US Armed Forces are acquiring new equipment for its own use and shipping older models of to Ukraine. For example, the Bradley IFV, US Army is shipping their older models of the Bradley and buying newer more potent and better protected Bradleys for the US Army. Why not blame accidents on funding sent to Israel or Taiwan? These countries are getting funding as well.
Well said Gonkey!
One of the times I wish I was younger, smarter, and didn't have medical issues haha.
Take the red pill, people. It is being done on purpose…”Ukraine wants that billion loan?…..better fire that prosecutor…”. How many BILLIONS have we spent in Ukraine….the most corrupt nation in Europe? Search Col Douglas McGregor. Take the red pill. Do your homework. Semper Fi! Post Tenebras Lux
No fly days are great for maintainers. Onload day is the worst for us because we have to carry all our stuff AND all your stuff below decks
